The Out Campaign: Scarlet Letter of Atheism

London Olympics logo

The organizing committee for the 2012 London Olympics has unveiled the new logo for the games, and the reception it’s receiving on one of the BBC’s websites is not positive. It’s not hard to see why. If you you look closely, you can just make out 2012 in the design. Otherwise, it doesn’t scale (Can you imagine trying to read this on a business card?) And, if you covered the Olympic rings, the logo could represent just about anything.

The official news release, which includes a quote from everyone except Ben Johnson and the Queen, says the logo was produced by Wolff Ollins. The release doesn’t mention how much the logo cost.

Boing Boing has more on some alternative designs.

Update: The logo cost GBP400,000 and sections of a video used to launch it have reportedly caused epileptic seizures in viewers.
