Saving Internet radio

In the US, the Copyright Royalty Board has denied an appeal by a group of public and private Internet broadcasters against new, higher royalties for music played on Internet radio stations. Many broadcasters think the new rates will make Internet radio prohibitively expensive, effectively killing it off.

Thatís a shame, because KEXP, KCRW, Pandora and other online broadcasters are a superb way to hear new music, particularly the kind of material that doesnít get much airplay on commercial stations.

If you live in the US, you might want to sign this online petition. Internet radio is worth saving, and every little bit helps.
